[dropcap]C[/dropcap]enturies-old dance traditions blend seamlessly with 21st century production values and innovative choreography in Imágenes (Images), the latest show from Ballet Flamenco Andalucía, which arrives this week at Bogotá’s Teatro Colón.
The full title of the show, Imágenes, 20 years of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, clarifies that audiences will be transported through time via the choreography of Rafaela Carrasco. The show celebrates the Ballet’s 20th anniversary, but it is much more than a simple retrospective.

Carrasco has worked with the Ballet as a dancer and soloist, among other roles, and became head choreographer in 2013. In Imágenes, she recreates moments of impact from that experience, giving them a deeply personal interpretation.
“Imágenes isn’t simply an homage to the directors of the past 20 years in the life of the Ballet, but rather a demonstration of the most applauded and memorable moments of their spectacles,” said a representative for the group in a statement this week.
Flamenco is best known for it’s vibrant color, motion and sharp, staccato rhythms. Ballet offers those staples and more, creating an engrossing work of art that both embraces and moves beyond classical music and dance.
Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía is widely considered one of Spain’s most important Flamenco ambassadors and is one of the country’s most respected artistic organizations.
