From the 19 to 21 of May, Bogotá’s Cámara de Comercio presents ARTBO I Fin De Semana, a new initiative providing the public with an opportunity to attend a variety of art exhibitions, events and guided tours without spending a single peso.

In recent years, Bogotá has greatly developed as a cultural destination with its wide range of fairs and events that occur annually. In October of 2004 the first ARTBO took place and would go on to become Colombia’s largest international art fair, expanding this year with its new ‘Fin De Semana’. María Paz Gaviria, the director of ARTBO states that the weekend will be about strengthening the city’s reputation as a cultural hotspot as a well as creating a space for cultural exchanges between national and international audiences.

Over the course of three days, the city’s up-and-coming art scene will be promoted in a total of forty two different locations including twenty four galleries and museums, eleven independent spaces and six institutions. Visitors will be able to admire the work of over one hundred artists “in an event that takes place in the city and is for the city”.

In the three designated neighbourhoods of La Macarena, Chapinero and San Felipe, the public will not only have the chance to visit exhibitions showcasing paintings, sculptures and photography, but can also engage in one-on-one conversations with the artists and curators involved. The venues participating in the initiative will be supported by a team of experts in charge of providing necessary information and guiding visitors through the displays. What’s more, the Cámara de Comercio has generously organised a free transport system to help make mobility between each area just that little bit easier.

ARTBO I Fin De Semana will also host two exclusive activities that sets it apart from the similar European art weekends it was inspired by. An academic forum at the Cámara de Comercio in Chapinero will consist of a series panels led by prestigious names in the world of art and an editorial meeting at MAMBO (the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá) will invite five guests from Spain, Mexico and the United Kingdom to discuss their projects in front of an audience.

Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to experience Bogota’s vibrant and unique art scene in a way that’s never been done before. For the specific schedule detailing when and where, see ARTBO’s website at www.artbo.co.
