Emirates Airlines want Colombia in its global network with a planned Dubai to Bogotá flight starting June 3. The flight is pending approval from Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority (ACC) and would strengthen connectivity between the South American nation and strategic international hubs.
The route will include a stop in Miami (MIA) and direct competition on the three-hour flight with the Bogotá-based Avianca. All passengers heading to Dubai from Bogotá will have to clear U.S customs and immigration.
Emirates will use their Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for these flights, boasting a three-class configuration that can comfortably accommodate a total of 354 passengers. Additionally, each flight will have a cargo capacity of 14 tons, contributing to the facilitation of trade and commerce between the two nations.
The request for approval was submitted to the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority on February 16 and a public hearing reviewed the proposal on Monday. In response to the application, the Civil Aviation Authority highlighted the growing demand for travel to the United Arab Emirates, underscoring the potential economic and cultural benefits for both nations.
If the proposal receives the green light, Colombia would become the third country in South America where Emirates operates commercial flights. Currently, the airline serves Brazil (Río de Janeiro and São Paulo) and Argentina (Buenos Aires), showcasing an expanding presence in the region.
The Colombian government expressed enthusiasm for the proposed route, acknowledging the international aviation industry’s confidence in the country’s tourism potential, cultural exchange, and the exploration of new markets.
Emirates Airlines, known for its commitment to luxury air travel, has a robust global network, serving over 130 international destinations in 73 countries from its hub at Dubai International Airport. While currently operating Boeing 777 and A380 aircraft, the airline is poised to introduce the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X in the coming years, showcasing its evolving long-haul demand for greater international connectivity.
With the approval, the daily flights starting on June 3 will not only bolster economic ties between the UAE and Colombia but provides travelers with the opportunity to connect via the Middle East with Emirates’ extensive network of destinations in Africa, India, and the Far East. Currently passengers flying between Bogotá and cities in Eastern Europe, Middle East, sub-Indian continent and Asia have the option with Turkish Airlines. Turkish Airlines operates a daily Bogotá-Panama City – Istanbul flight.
