[dropcap]D[/dropcap]id the prominent American singer and songwriter Rihanna, take the decision not to headline at the launch of the first Lollapolooza music festival in Bogotá over fears she could become infected with Zika?

That’s the question asked by the Colombian media Sunday after the 28-year-old pop diva turned down the opportunity of performing at the first Colombian edition of the festival.

Rihanna was one of several international performers scheduled to perform in the Colombian capital from September 17 to 18 and which included Lana Del Rey, Cage the Elephant, Vance Joy, Disclosure, The Chainsmokers and Wiz Khalifa.

Lollapalooza Colombia Festival organisers decided to cancel the entire event as they could not find a “suitable replacement.”

But on the official Lollapalooza poster the pop star was never actually mentioned. According to a report in the New York Daily News, a mystery singer is now “taking the flak” over the Colombian cancellation even though the festival’s organisers never mentioned which act forced the decision.

“After the cancellation of the headline artist hours before the announcement of the cartel and facing major difficulties in finding a suitable replacement, festival organisers have been forced to cancel the inaugural Lollapalooza Colombia,” said an official statement.

There have been no cases of Zika in Bogotá, as the Colombian capital sits at 2,670 meters above sea level and out of range for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits the debilitating Zika virus.
