Giselle – National Dance Company (Spain)

The director of the Spanish Dance Company, Joaquín De Luz will deliver at Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo a new version of the classical ballet ‘Giselle’, seen through Spanish Romanticism, and inspired by the poetry of Bécquer.

The ballet will have four performances on January 26 and 27, 8 p.m. and January 28 and 29 at 5 p.m.

Giselle tells the story of innocent love and betrayal; of a philandering Duke Albrecht and a trusting peasant maid. Although she has a weak heart, Giselle loves to dance. Set during a harvest festival, the Duke pursues Giselle by disguising himself as a peasant named Loys and rents a cottage opposite her house. His squire, Wilfrid, is wary of Albrecht’s plans as he is already betrothed.

The Giselle story unravels in a forest over the ballet’s Three Acts and widely considered among the most stunningly cast works on international stages. The Teatro Mayor’s performances count with the participation of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia.
