The ramparts of Cartagena’s Old City and built by the Spanish conquistadores to protect their slaving outpost in the New World against the British Navy and marauding buccaneers, basks in the afterglow of a Caribbean sunset. With the start of Colombia’s Easter holiday season, the city’s tourism sector hopes to return to pre-pandemic levels in hotel occupancy and flight bookings.
