For most, an image is worth more than a thousand words. For those participating in the seventh year of Colombia Revela 2015, it can also mean prestige, a chance at being published, and the opportunity to win up to 10 million Colombian pesos in prizes.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, through Fontur, launched the photographic competition, which is open to Colombians and foreigners alike, on the 23rd of October. This year’s topic is Colombia A Destination Of Unique Touristic Experiences (Colombia: Destino de Experiencias Turísticas Únicas).

Colombia Revela 2015 looks to promote the beauty and diversity this country’s tourism portfolio has to offer, while revealing the personal experience that makes the Colombian story unique and memorable for those behind the lens.

Weather it be the force of the crescent waves smashing against the rocks while rafting down the Fonce River, in Santander, or the green hues of light bathing the air while canopying between the trees, above the forest, in the Amazon, it is rather more often than not, that Colombia makes a picture perfect moment.

Capturing the precise instant when the Mompoxino metal smith finishes the last touches of his masterpiece, while the fire lights-up the room where his father learned the filigree trade from his ancestors, only to pass it along to future generations, is an experience that is worth its weight in gold.

Do remember to snap that special shot with your camera or phone next time you are out and about the country, far o close to home, and summit your work before the 22nd of December 2015, 17 hours, Eastern Time. If you have no plans to travel soon, look through the archives of your recent travels through Colombia, as photos taken as far back as 2010 are accepted, certain conditions apply.

Participants can submit up to two photographs each as Jpg archives, in both high and low resolution, and attach the inscription form scanned and signed via email to revelacolombia@mincit.gov.co. Contestants also can present their work in print, and in Jpg format in a DVD by sending them to Calle 28 # 13A-15, Bogotá DC.

The jury will take in to consideration, among other factors, the conceptual depth, esthetics, composition, light and quality of the image, as well as its contribution to the field of tourism, and its relevance to this year’s subject matter. The lesser level of manipulation and intervention the image has, the better the chance it has to win.

The fist place winner will receive 10 million pesos. The second runner up will collect 6 million pesos, and the third will get 3 million pesos. The best one hundred images will be published in the annual contest book Revela Colombia 2015.

All images submitted will be part of the archive of The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. This means participants will automatically surrender their patrimonial rights and authorize usage of the images for any means necessary.
