“The Emperor’s Banquet” is the title of an exhibition by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei that opens at Bogotá’s La Cometa gallery on Saturday, February 19.
The renowned artist is a leading exponent of his native country’s millenary culture through 21st Century avant-guard works that reveal the industrial production of the artistic process.
WeiWei participated in the construction of the Beijing Olympic Stadium in 2008, known as the “bird’s nest” and is recognized for his open opposition to the communist regime. The 64-year-old artist is the son of Chinese poet Ai Qing, who was denounced during China’s anti-rightist movement. His family was exiled, sent to a labor camp, and finally transferred to Beijing.
