The National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia (OSNC) raises the curtain of the Teatro Colon, January 28 with their first concert of their 2016 season.

Acclaimed Korean-American violinist Esther Yoo, who was recognized as one of the most prominent artists of the new generation by the BBC, will perform under the direction of French conductor, Olivier Grangean.

This is the second concert conducted by Grangean after his appointment as Principal Conductor of the OSNC last October. For the January 28 concert, three wonderful works will delight the public, beginning the evening with “The Roman Carnival” by composer Hector Berlioz (1803-1869).

This unique work premiered in 1844 under the direction of Berlioz in Paris. That same year, he wrote the book entitled “Treatise on Instrumentation and Modern Orchestration.”

“The Roman Carnival” has become one of the most performed works by this 19th century composer due to its orchestral expertise and melodic imagination.

Esther Yoo gained international recognition in 2010 when at age 16 she became the youngest prizewinner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition and a platform which allowed her to be invited to play alongside major orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, the Kansai Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de Lille.

Recent and upcoming festival appearances include the Ghent Festival of Flanders, Festival de Fénétrange, Seoul International Music Festival (featuring Bach’s Double Concerto with Maxim Vengerov), Festival du Château de Chambord (France) and Dvo?ák Prague Festival.

Yoo and the National Symphony will perform two other masterpieces for this gala event: Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto,” written in 1878 and Béla Bartók’s 1943 “Concerto for Orchestra.”

In their first appearance of 2016 and introducing Esther Yoo, the Colón launches their culturally-engaging agenda for the year and one which promises unique moments and, of course, world-class talent.
