After the critical success of four performances of ‘Black: el payaso’ the Colón Theater brings to the stage November 27th a presentation by the Baroque music ensemble, Il Giardino Armonico.

Founded in 1985 and conducted by Giovanni Antonini, Il Giardino Armonico has positioned itself as one of the leading period instrument ensembles, bringing together musicians from major European musical institutions.

The group’s repertoire is mainly focused on the 17th and 18th century Baroque composers, such as Corelli, Monteverdi and Vivaldi, and depending on the demands, the group consists of anywhere from 3 to 35 musicians.

They have collaborated with leading vocalists such as mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink and Cecilia Bartoli, obtaining for the group prestigious awards in Europe.

After many years as the exclusive group of Teldec Classics, Il Giardino Armonico signed an exclusive recording agreement with DECCA/L’Oiseau-Lyre in 2008. With this record label the ensemble has released Haendel’s Concerti Grossi Op VI and the cantata Il Pianto di Maria, with mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink.

In 2009, a new cooperation with mezzo soprano Cecilia Bartoli lead to the project Sacrificium, including il Giardino Armonico’s last Decca recording and awarded the Platinum Disc in France and Belgium within the first three months, followed by a long European tour.

Il Giardino’s most recent release Alleluja, with young soprano Julia Lezhneva, was released to critical acclaim last year.

Following Il Giardino Armonico on November 28th and 29 the stage is set for the musicians of the classical Spanish guitar quartet: Los Romero. Known as “The Royal Family of the Guitar” this quartet was founded in 1960 by Celedonio Romero. Celedonio’s three sons, Angel, Celin and Pepe, made their debuts performing with the ensemble. In 1957, the Romeros moved to the United States and have performed with virtually every major symphony orchestra in the United States including Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles to mention a few. The Romeros have been invited to perform in the White House and the Vatican, as well as many festivals around the world
