The Guambiano Indians, numbering nearly 12,000, live mostly in Colombia’s Cauca department – most visibly in the town of Silvia not far from Popayán. They are best known for their colorful traditional dress. Agriculture, mostly growing corn or wheat, remains the main livelihood of these indigenous peoples. In the photograph are some Guambiano women inspecting local carrots on a Saturday, market day.
