The CCB presented this month the new typeface of the ARTBO art fair.

The count down for ARTBO 2014 began September 1st with the launching of its new image, which in turn, commemorates the 10th anniversary of what has become one of the most important art fairs in Latin America.

Tangrama, a company that specializes in cultural interdisciplinary projects and stresses the relationship between graphic design and visual arts, designed the logo. “We were inspired by the work of (Giambattista) Bodoni, one of the best typographers in history, and we created a more solid and long lasting identity,” explains Nicolás Consuegra, one of the three founding directors of Tangrama.

The design of the logo took three months in the making. Instead of changing it year after year, the new image will preserve the typeface. However, the background will vary from its characteristic yellow to hot pink, blue or magenta.

According to María Paz Gaviria, director of ARTBO, “the new graphic identity embodies the spirit of the fair, which is to reach a perfect equilibrium between its long and solid trajectory, criteria and influence in the art scene, and its commitment to renovate its proposal with the innovative and emerging.”

Mónica de Greiff, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota, which organizes ARTBO, explained that the “entity has supported with determination the development of creative and cultural industries for the last ten years, by implementing programs to strengthen them and making them more competitive and financially viable.”

ARTBO runs from the 24th to the 27th of October in Corferias, the city’s main convention complex. The fair consists of five major components, one of which hosts 66 galleries from Colombia and around the world.

Under the title Projects and the curatorial of José Roca, this section will showcase 14 projects specially developed for the fair by artist and designers.

This year, the organizers will launch Referentes, a segment that promotes a broader understanding of the historical context of the art exhibited during the fair. It will focus on the period between 1940 and 1970. Carolina Ponce de León and Santiago Rueda are the curators in charge.

Jaime Cerón is curating Articulare, a space promoting the works of 48 emerging Colombian artists, including the works of independent and self-administrated spaces that operate in the country.

And last but not least, this year’s Forum will reflect on the future of the production and showcasing of contemporary art. The curator in charge of organizing the discussion is Chus Martínez, Head of the Institute of Art at the Academy of Art and Design of Basel.
