[dropcap]T[/dropcap]wo of Colombia’s most striking voices come together in a single recital, Thursday June 30, as the Teatro Colón presents Betty Garcés and Valeriano Lanchas in Noche Lírica – an evening of song, opera and zarzuela.

Viewers will appreciate the two great operatic stars on a stage back in their native Colombia after a busy year of international commitments. In December, Lanchas debuted in a critically-acclaimed performance at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Bartolo in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Betty Garcés also has made her debut on some of Europe’s most important stages taking on the roles of Mimi in La Boheme and the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro.

Audiences to the gala will enjoy works by Francisco Cilea, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Xavier Montsalvage, Federico Chueca, Joaquín Valverde, Gonzalo Roig and Franz Lehár.

Valeriano and Betty have taken Colombia’s operatic talent to new heights and are ambassadors of a generation of artists who enjoy performing as much at home as in the great music halls of Europe. Lanchas recently performed in the Teatro Colón’s Macbeth and just several weeks ago, at the main cathedral of Bogotá, in the Concert For Peace with Benjamin’s Britten War Requiem. He has shared the stage with Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Juan Diego Florez, Anna Netrebko and Juan Pons.

Accompanying on the piano is Mauricio Arias one of the most versatile musicians of this stellar moment. Arias composed Rapsodia Camaleónica for piano, trumpet and orchestra in 2012 and that same year, was invited to present it at New York’s Carnegie Hall. In January 2015, he conducted the premiere of the complete orchestral version with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia. Mauricio has appeared as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, the National Symphony of Cuba, Orchestra of the Hochschule Münster, among others.

Some of the highlights of the evening’s repertoire include Night and Day by Ella Fitzgerald, two operatic movements from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Act 1 of Adriana Lecouvreur by Francesco Cilea, Summertime by Louis Armstrong.

Tickets for Noche Lírica cost $ 30,000 pesos and $ 80,000 pesos and can be purchased online through www.tuboleta.com or at Teatro Colón’s box office at the main entrance of theatre. Performance starts at 7:30 pm and doors open 7:00 pm.
