BP-Old Providence

Once a refuge for bucaneers and swash-buckling pirates, Providencia and Santa Catalina island is one of Colombia’s most remote and enchanting places. Located 80 kilometers east of San Andrés island, Old Providence – as it was known by the English settlers and Baptist missionaries- was also the island Captain Henry Morgan used as a haven while planning his attacks on Spanish galleons and fort cities such as Cartagena. Today, a peaceful society thrives in this corner of paradise, and so does a tradition of horse racing on white secluded beaches washed by the Caribbean.
